Why do people stop or don't take supplements on a regular basis, and hence do not maintain or improve their health? It's the very same reason many people do not regularly consume food meant for their unique body and lifestyle: They do not know what to choose to eat, how much, and don't know what method of getting those substances into their bodies.
A recent online survey conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of the American Osteopathic Association found that a significant majority of American adults, over 86%, take vitamins or supplements. However, the survey also revealed that only a quarter of those who take these supplements, approximately 24%, have received test results indicating a nutritional deficiency.
We cannot stress enough the importance of obtaining an individualized assessment to find out what your cellular nutritional defiencies and toxicities are just like a botanist would for a plant.
No "one size fits all" diet, lifestyle or work environment
So why should we believe there's a "one size fits all" diet, supplement, medical treatment or anything else generalized for the masses? We also should not fall into the propaganda of obtaining "a regular balanced diet" since this varies from person to person, from disposition to disposition, and from ethnicity to ethnicity since all of us are epi-genetically unique. Simply think about it: if you work as a welder, what substances would your body likely be ingesting without consciously swallowing it? Many heavy metals. If you go home from work and consume beer, drugs, cigarettes, or junk foods, what do you think your body ingests and need to get rid of before you "become sick?"
Why do we need supplements & higher quality food anyway?
It's very similar to what this example of one of the analysis methods we use to show you in a graph, what your epi-genetic, bio-chemical, and bio-mechanical imbalances are.
Many of us do not nearly obtain what we need from the food and so-called 'balanced diet" but also mainly because the food we consume doesn't contain the nutrients it did 50 to 70 years ago. Some of the largest reasons is the plants are hybridized and not absorbing nutrients from the soil in proper amounts, harvested too soon before ripening for shipping expediency. Where's the proof of this? There is tons of proof in this image and many other sources:

Many of us cannot obtain the proper tissue concentrations as those found in other counrties such as Japan. In that country the average life span is longer, and there are many cases of the population there reaching past 100 years of age. It's not only the food, and it's not because they may take supplements. It's also how the individual determines what they need, and it does help that the small amount of nutrients the Md doctors there test have higher tissue testing standards.

Why do many people stop taking beneficial supplements & food on a frequent basis?
1. Your expections do not meet reality & most important: not individualized!
It's important to have realistic expectations when it comes to achieving your goals. Setting unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment and frustration. It's important to take a step back and evaluate what is truly achievable and what steps need to be taken to get there. By setting realistic expectations and taking the necessary actions, you can increase your chances of success.
2. Your life situation is not where you need it to be
It's important to have realistic expectations when it comes to achieving your goals. Setting unrealistic expectations can lead to disappointment and frustration. It's important to take a step back and evaluate what is truly achievable and what steps need to be taken to get there. By setting realistic expectations and taking the necessary actions, you can increase your chances of success.
3. You're not waiting long enough for effects
It is important to note that "natural remedies" often require more time to show their effects compared to pharmaceuticals. The sad and surprising fact is that most pharmaceuticals were derived from these very same "natural" supplements but modified and patented for sale. Therefore, it is recommended to give your herbs and vitamins a minimum trial period of 3 months to fully assess their effectiveness.
4. You're not appropriately managing stress
While there are herbs and supplements that can assist in achieving better cortisol balance, it is essential to also manage and address the root causes of stress. Merely relying on supplements will not completely resolve the issue. It is easy to fall into the belief that we are stuck with whatever challenges life presents, but this mindset can lead to burnout, exhaustion, and frustration, all of which can negatively impact adrenal health.
5. There may be hormone imbalances underlying your condition
It is possible that imbalances in your sex hormones, cortisol, or thyroid hormones are hindering the effectiveness of your supplements. By undergoing testing, these imbalances can be identified and addressed, leading to a more effective treatment plan.
6. Your gut health is likely compromised
The health of your gut plays a crucial role in your overall well-being. If you have a damaged gut lining or low stomach acid (which is often the cause of GERD), your body may not be able to absorb the nutrients from supplements properly. Additionally, issues with constipation or diarrhea can also impact the effectiveness of supplements.
7. The supplements & food you're buying are of poor quality
Invest in high-quality vitamins and herbs by purchasing from a trustworthy supplier. Avoid purchasing cheap store brands that may have little to no active ingredients. Instead, opt for substances that have undergone independent quality testing. It's worth spending a little extra to ensure you're getting the best possible products. The same goes for food: avoid many brands because their labels and marketing are often deceptive -- even "organic" ones.
8. Ensure you acquire high-quality products & food
Opt for a trustworthy supplier when purchasing your vitamins and herbs. Numerous inexpensive store brands lack significant active ingredients. Instead, opt for brands that have undergone independent quality testing. In this particular scenario, investing a little more to obtain superior brands is truly worthwhile.
9. You're not taking appropriate dosages of food & supplements
In many cases the oral route is not suffiicient mainly because of poor absorption caused by mainly poor intestinal health. The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) serves as a mere recommendation. In certain cases, such as adrenal dysregulation, the suggested amount may not suffice if additional support is required. For instance, to facilitate healing, substantial quantities of Vitamin C and B5 are necessary, despite the RDA for these vitamins being comparatively lower. Generally, if the body does not require certain vitamins, they are eliminated through urine. However, Vitamins A, D, E, and K are exceptions as they can be stored in the body, potentially leading to toxicity if consumed in excessive amounts. An important note is this toxicity of nutrients is very rare when compared to even consuming small amounts of prescription drugs. Sometimes alternative delivery methods of nutrients are required such as small injections, trans-dermal patches, and others.
10. Your cellular nutritional protocol is not individualized uniquely for you
It is a common occurrence to find oneself in the supplement aisle of a health food store, tempted to fill up a basket with various products. However, it is crucial to consider whether these choices are truly beneficial for your well-being. Could it be possible that selecting the wrong herb might exacerbate your situation? If you are aware that your body requires substantial support, it might be worthwhile to seek the assistance of an expert. Consider undergoing testing, such as organic acids or hormone analysis, if necessary.
11. Dosages in adequate amounts do not stay in your body long enough between dosage intakes
Lots of people don't realize that many body-native(natural) substances such as herbs, fat-soluble substances, and many others like water soluble substances do not stay in the body very long because of the very short half-life they maintain in the body. Half-life is 1/2 the time taken for the body to rid of any substance in a certain period of time. For instance, the half-life of Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C). There exists a prominent advocacy movement that advocates for the consumption of high doses of vitamin C. Certain authors contend that the biological half-life of vitamin C at elevated plasma levels is approximately 30 minutes, although these claims are disputed. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers determined the current recommended dietary allowance (RDA) by conducting tests 12 hours (24 half-lives) after ingestion. The dynamic flow model contradicts the current low-dose recommendations for dietary intake and associates Pauling's mega-dose recommendations with other reported benefits of high doses of ascorbate in treating illnesses.
12. You're stuck in the "take this 1 substance for that ailment band-aid" approach your MD uses
We need to break free from the mindset that a pill of any sort will cure what ails you. Botanist don't do this so why should practitioners? The sad reality is many practitioners including medical doctors, naturopaths, dieticians, and all flavors of practitioner still stick to this mindset because it's what people are used to. In this fast-paced society many cannot afford to take time off work to properly adhere to any sort of treatment whether it be colonics, dental treatments, cleansing and detoxication, and many others. They seek an almost instant-fix and if you don't provide something similar to that to clients they tend to think it's some kind of scam. Properly maintaining the terrain of the body takes more effort at the start and less to maintain, but the alternative is waiting until you become sick and then you take substantially more time, effort and funds to try to recouperate. The sad reality is unlike but also similar to a car, once you sustain damage and try to replace or repair sub-components of the body, the overal system is never the same especially into account the aging process that is also radically increased when we wait until we become sick.
13. Uncomfortable absorption effects
Many times consumers of supplements report that they may develop upset stomach from taking certain substaces. In some cases zinc and other minerals tend to cause upset stomach when ingested witout food. Some varieties of supplements are of poor quality and this may also aggrevate the stomach and other biological functions. Often timese these effects could be severe enough where it actually eventually prevents you from taking the supplements further because it becomes a monumental task to regularly consume these substances. It should be known there are other ways to consume what you need and these could be trans-dermal patches, small injections. Zinc stomach upset symptoms are some of the most common reported effects and it's best to take zinc and others with food, but there are some substances you should not consume with food. The best way to develop a more complete picture of the negative obvious effects is to consult with a systems nutritionist.
14. Your mineral systems is not balanced
The minerals are the backbone of your endogenous antioxidant system. Antioxidant enzymes like superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione all rely on minerals to function properly. When there is a disbalance in these minerals, it can lead to oxidative stress. Accumulating metals can further exacerbate the issue, creating vicious cycles that are difficult to reverse. Research shows a strong link between inflammation, oxidative stress, and conditions like depression. This connection is well-established and not controversial. Therefore, addressing mineral imbalances and supporting your antioxidant system may play a crucial role in managing mental health conditions, particularly depression. Numerous research studies have demonstrated that simply providing general antioxidant supplements to individuals does not necessarily lead to a longer life. The key reason behind this is that these supplements fail to address the overall mineral balance in the body or eliminate the toxic metal burden that has built up over time. Without supporting processes like methylation and cellular detoxification with the correct combination of vitamins and minerals, the desired outcomes are not achieved.
